Obituary

Theodore Franklin Yeomans

Kauneonga Lake, NY

Lifelong Sullivan County resident, Theodore F. Yeomans, passed away on Monday July 28, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side. He was 77 years young. "Teddy", as he was known, was born August 10, 1936 to the late Andrew F. Yeomans and the late Anne Warren Yeomans at the family homestead in Monticello, NY.

Teddy served in the United States Navy from June 1956 to March 1962 when he was honorably discharged. He was stationed in Norfolk VA, where he served aboard the USS Lake County.

Upon his return to Sullivan County, he met and married his loving wife of 51 years Donna J. Martinus and assumed his father's construction and paving business, Yeomans Construction. Teddy was also renowned for his skills as a Master Stone Mason. His "art" as he would have described it, can be seen throughout Sullivan County.

Ted and his family would later move to the town of Bethel, where most of the family resides today. Teddy is known in the Town of Bethel for his love of the political theater and sense of community service. Most everyone can remember the family diner, Andy's Place in Kauneonga Lake. Teddy was among the first to make public, the vision of developing Bethel's own greatest asset, the original Woodstock site, now known as the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. It is because of the selfless community interest he stood for and shared visions for that "Green Pasture" that Bethel Woodstock co-founders John Roberts and Michael Lang granted Teddy the rights to use the original Iconic Dove & Guitar logo and Woodstock name as they were designed in 1969.

Teddy is survived by his wife Donna and their three children. Avis Kinne and her husband James of White Lake N.Y., Andrew Yeomans and his wife Janice of Monticello N.Y. and August Yeomans and her daughter Andrea Yeomans of White Lake, NY. He is also survived by his beautiful grandchildren Shannon, Kayleigh, Morgan, Andie and Lorelei and by his beloved bedside companion, Sasha, a black Labrador rescue, who never left his side throughout his illness. He was predeceased by his sisters, Jean Kingsley of California and Joan Rowley of Middletown New York.

His vision of craftsmanship and his ability to motivate a community led to the idea of constructing a town park where an old resort once stood. Teddy, with the help of countless volunteers, built what is now known as the Town of Bethel Park and Pool. The family requests that all donations be made to the Town of Bethel Development Corp, PO Box 300, White Lake, NY 12786 (Bethel Town Pool), in his memory.

Teddy was a symbol of selfless humanity and could indeed generate a particular brand of magic. There are not words to thank you for the way you brightened our lives and afforded us your strength. You will be missed.

A celebration of Teddy's life will be held on Thursday , July 31 from 7 - 9 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 3534 State Route 55, Kauneonga Lake, NY.
