June was the daughter of the late Fred and Helen Williams Lilley and was born on October 2, 1926 in Kauneonga Lake, NY. She was a member of the Kauneonga Lake Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Rhyne of Liberty, NY; children, Karan Galloway and her husband, Patrick, of Liberty, NY; Kevin Rhyne of Bethel, NY and Jed Rhyne and his wife Sherri of Mongaup Valley, NY; 4 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Lloyd Rhyne; a grandson, Christopher Galloway and a brother, Alvin Lilley.

He is survived by his mother, Alberta (Bertie) Gale of East Branch, NY; his father, Thomas N. Gale of Rehoboth Beach, DE; companion, Debbie Tremain of North Branch; son, Thomas A. Gale of Jeffersonville, NY; daughter, Rachel Lutchman of Minnesota; sister, Sandy Lockwood of Milford, DE and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Shane Gale.

Jean F. Wood, a lifelong Sullivan county resident, passed away on Wednesday April 9, 2014 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. She was 68. The daughter of the late Lyn and Anita "Honey" Alexander Loughrey, she was born on December 5, 1945 in Livingston Manor, NY.

Jean worked as bookkeeper for Wood's Repair in Liberty, NY. She was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty where she belonged to the Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Lyman Wood Jr. at home; her son, Lyman Wood III of Tucson, AZ; her daughter, Donna Lyn Bass of Liberty, NY; sisters, Lynne Hyzer and husband Ken of Livingston Manor, Barbara Wehner of Buffalo, NY and Lois Bertholf and husband Bill of Livingston Manor, NY; several nieces and nephews; two grand-kittys, three grand-puppies and one vocal bird.

The Wood family would like to thank their extended family at Catskill Regional Medical Center and Sullivan County Adult Care Center for the caring and compassionate care they gave to our Jean.

Glenn C. Ramirez, a lifelong Liberty resident, passed away after a long illness on Friday April 4, 2014 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. He was 48 years of age. He was the son of Henry J. and Irene M. LaMoya Ramirez and was born on August 29, 1965 in New York City.

Glenn was a member of Vine Branch Church in Liberty, the Liberty Elks Lodge # 1545 and was a Troop Lleader for Boy Scout Troop # 95, Liberty, NY. He was very active in Liberty Little League, having been both a Board Member and Coach. He also volunteered for the Liberty AYSO Soccer League.

He is survived by his parents, Henry J and Irene M. Ramirez of Lehigh Acres, FL and Parksville, NY; his wife, Barbara-Jean Ramirez at home; son, Christopher P. Ramirez at home; daughters, Jessica Ramirez of New York City and Elaina-Louise-Ramirez at home; brothers, Adam Ramirez and wife Hallie of Liberty and Eric H. Ramirez of Lehigh Acres, FL; a sister, Dona Rupp and husband Skylar of Boca Raton, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Archie T. Dean Jr, 91, of Neversink, NY, passed away on Thursday April 3, 2014 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. The son of the late Archie and Emogene Merritt Dean, he was born on Nov. 17, 1922 in Liberty, NY.

Archie was retired from the Department of Environmental Protection in Grahamsville, NY. He was also a farmer and land developer. He was very active in his community. A member of Liberty Lodge # 521 F&AM., he was a former District Deputy and on March 19, 2014, he was awarded his 70-year pin and certificate. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason - Valley of Binghamton. He joined the Revonah Chapter # 446, Order of the Eastern Star, on Dec. 16, 1945 and was Patron of the Revonah Chapter in 1977. He was a charter member of Neversink Fire Dept and was a former commissioner. He was also a charter member of the Neversink First Aid Squad. He was a Director and Agent for Callicoon Co-Op Insurance Co. FOR 57 years; a member of the Neversink Planning Board and the Neversink Zoning Board and the Neversink-Rondout Antique Machinery Assn.

He leaves behind his son, George A. Dean and wife Barbara of Neversink; daughters, Carolyn Dean Hill of Neversink and Bonnie Sue Dean Vandenberg and husband Glenn of Claryville; son-in-law, Thomas Poley of Neversink; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Smith Dean of Neversink; fourteen grandchildren ; twenty-three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Louise George Dean; daughter, Shirley Marie Dean Poley; brother, Franklin Dean and son-in-law, Steven T. Hill.

Ronald James Stecker

Ronald James Stecker, a longtime area resident, passed away on Thursday April 3, 2014 at his home with his loving family at his side. He was 70. The son of the late Edward L. and Eileen Mangan Stecker, he was born on February 28, 1944 in Binghamton, NY.

Ronald was a hardware clerk for Trading Post in Rock Hill, NY. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in Vietnam. He received two bronze stars. He was a volunteer at the Triangle Fire Station and the Hillcrest Fire Station and he was also involved in Prison Ministry for the NYS Prison System.

Survivors include his wife Deborah Blair Stecker at home; son, Danny Smith and his wife Debra of Vestal, NY; brother, Gary Stecker and his wife Minnie of Fort Mills, SC; sisters, Mary "Snookie" Chandler and husband Don of Whitney Point, NY, Ann Bello and husband Francis of Endicott, NY and Theresa Dobb and husband Chuck of Horseheads, NY; two grandchildren Landon and Riley Smith and several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn J. LaPolt, 71, went home to the Lord on Wednesday April 2, 2014 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. She was the daughter of Herbert and Iva Foster and was born on April 29, 1942 in Liberty, NY. She was retired from Monticello Central Schools as a bus aide, a job she had for many years.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 51 years, Sam LaPolt, Jr. of Smallwood; two sons, Keith LaPolt and his companion Tammy LaPolt and Gary LaPolt and a daughter Amy, all of Smallwood, NY; two grandsons, Garrett and Kyle LaPolt and two granddaughters, Angelica and Kayla LaPolt; two great-grandsons ; a sister, Linda Blais (Robert) of Bethel, NY; five brothers, Doug Foster(Dorothy) of Narrowsburg, NY, Jack Foster (Marjory) of Kauneonga Lake, NY; Charles Foster (Alicia) of White Lake, NY, Keith Foster and companion, Norma Rose of Ashville, NC and Donald Foster (Frances) of Sorrento, FL; sister-in-law, Kathy LaPolt Neuenhoff of Bethel, NY , many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bruce LaPolt Jr., a lifelong Sullivan County resident, died suddenly on Tuesday April 1, 2014 in Monticello, NY. He was 42. The son of Bruce LaPolt Sr. and Anne Stabak LaPolt, he was born on May 16, 1971 in Harris, NY.

Bruce was a Union Mason and a kind-hearted free spirit. He loved his daughter dearly. His passion was to play the guitar and make music.

He is survived by his mother, Anna LaPolt of Monticello; his daughter, Brooke Lee LaPolt of Newburgh; his brother, Brian LaPolt and his wife Talia of Monticello and his nephew, Bronson LaPolt. He was predeceased by his father, Bruce LaPolt Sr.

Mary Alice Hazucha, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday March 30, 2014 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center. She was 96. She was born on August 12, 1917 in Nyack, NY.

Mary Alice was a member of St. Anne' s Church in Nyack, NY. She was the widow of Rudolph Hazucha, her husband of 62 years, who died in 2009.

She is survived by her daughter and best friend. Alice Jimick and husband Brian of Loch Sheldrake, NY; daughters, Patricia Trifaro and husband Leonard of Cairo, NY and Mary Joy Liggio of Las Vegas, NV and several grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Gertrude Gozza.

Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY. Graveside memorial services will be held at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery at a later date and will be private.

Born on June 30, 1926 in New Jersey, he was the son of the late Adolph G. and Ebba Frank Adrian.

Dr. Adrian was a retired Obstetrician. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Liberty, a 65-year member of the Rising Sun Lodge # 15 F&AM in Haddenfield, NJ and he was a US Navy Veteran.

Survivors include his daughters, Jennifer Fallet and her husband Michael of Youngsville and Lisa Adrian Davies of Jeffersonville, NY and his grandchildren, Thomas, Cara Lynn and Matthew Davies. He was predeceased by his wife, Carol J. Adrian and his son, Donald C. Adrian Jr.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday March 31, 2014 at 3 PM at Liberty Cemetery, Cold Spring Rd. Liberty. Rev. Johanna Andritz will officiate.

Kitty was a member of the Bethel Catholic Club and the Kauneonga Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. She worked at Vassmer's General Store in Kauneonga Lake for many years.

She is survived by her son, John F. Nancy was a devoted wife, a computer whiz with an amazing artistic sense and had a great sense of humor. She loved people, was an avid reader and was an extraordinary player of word games. Friends who knew her were amazed by her can-do spirit and smile even in the face of adversity. The world is a more beautiful place because of all the lives she so generously touched.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her uncle Paul Nelson of St. Paul, MN.

Penny Lynn Blume, a lifelong Sullivan County resident, passed away on Tuesday January 21, 2014 in Santa Rosa, CA after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was 51. Born on June 27, 1962 in Callicoon, NY, she was the daughter of John W. and Jean Doris Edna Neumann Carman.

Penny was a waitress at Blanche's Diner in Mongaup Valley for many years and was also a Weight Watcher's Leader and Administrator and a member of White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her father, John W. Carman of Parksville, NY; her companion, Don Stranathan of Sana Rosa, CA; sons, Josh Sprague and his wife Christie of Syracuse, NY and Edward Blume Jr. of Loch Sheldrake, NY; brothers, Mark Carman and his wife Kathleen of Parksville, NY, Wayne Carman and his companion Laura Quigley of North Branch, NY and Scott Carman and his companion Josie Cross of Liberty, NY; sister, Sherri Kavleski and her husband Paul Kavleski Sr. of Liberty and her special friend, Bonnie Carman of Liberty.

Helen Mae Coleman

Liberty, NY

Helen Mae Coleman went to be with the Lord in the early hours of Tuesday, January 14, 2014, as she journeys into Jehovah's Kingdom. She was born on May 18, 1919 in the district of Pleasant Valley, Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies.

Mom Estella Elliott gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and the proud mother and father, Percy Coleman, named her Helen Mae Coleman. Helen Mae was popularly called Mae. Helen Mae was schooled in the Pleasant Valley School District. As she started her family, she, at various times, operated the "Country Shop" in the districts of Hayes and Sandy Gully in the parish of Clarendon.

Helen Mae migrated to the USA in 1966 and later became a citizen. She was an independent person and although she lived apart from her family, she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She finally went to live with her youngest son, George "Teddy" Facy and his family in Liberty, NY in 2004. As her health failed, she was admitted to Achieve Rehab & Nursing Center in Liberty, NY.

Miss Mae, as she was affectionately called, had three brothers and two sisters, all of whom are deceased. She is survived by daughters, Patience Wong of Hempstead, NY, Bernadette Charlton of Uniondale, NY and Gloria Williams of Clarendon, Jamaica; sons, Wycliffe of Port St. Lucie, FL, Bradberry of Nashville, TN and George "Teddy" of Liberty, NY. The family wishes to thank everyone for their expressions of sympathy.

William Traxler

Livingston Manor, NY and the Villages, Florida

William (Bill) Traxler,81, of the Villages, Florida and Livingston Manor, NY and formerly of Stony Brook, LI, NY, passed away peacefully in Florida on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 with his family by his side.

Bill was born on September 23, 1932 in Chambersburg, PA, the son of Edna Schaffer and Daniel Errol Traxler. He graduated from Westchester College in Pennsylvania in 1954, served two years in the US Army and taught instrumental music in Hauppauge Schools on Long Island until his retirement in 1987. Bill was an accomplished bass player, photographer and pastel artist. He was a piano technician and tuner and was a member of the Piano Technician's Guild. He was a deacon in the Setauket Presbyterian Church, sang with Long Island Symphonic Choral Association and was a proud NY Yankees fan. He loved going to the opera and listening to music, especially classical and jazz, creating art and travelling the world. Bill has been an inspiration and mentor to so many and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine Calkin Traxler at home; daughters, Kathryn Anderson of Tacoma, WA; Jennifer and Doug Reeber of Topsham, ME, Carrie and Jim Leach of Monroe, NY and Amy and Mike McMillion of Ellicott City, MD; grandchildren, Erin, Eric, Katelyn, Lukas, Kelly, Jessica, Anna and Emily and great-grandson Jameson.

Horace M. Sheeley, 86, great-grandfather, grandfather, father, husband, businessman, Gideon, Lion, Fireman, Public Servant and Church Member of Grahamsville, NY, passed on Monday, December 30, 2013 at home after a short battle with cancer. Horace, the son of Earl D. and Ada V. Sheeley was born in Ellenville, NY on September 6, 1927. He is survived by his wife Eunice; sons, Jim (Sue) and John; grandchildren, Mike (Deanna), Megan (Jason), Karyn (Mike), Luke, Benjamin and Nathaniel; great-granddaughter, Brea and two great-grandchildren on the way.

Horace graduated from Ellenville High School in 1945 and then served two years in the Army. Upon returning to Grahamsville, he worked on both the Neversink and Roundout Reservoir projects. He married his wife of 56 years on November 10, 1957, and after a short residence in Monticello, returned to Grahamsville where he lived and served until his death on Monday morning. Horace and Eunice owned and operated Earl D. Sheeley & Son, Inc. from 1968 through 1999 when they handed over the reins to Jim and his wife to continue the family business his Dad had started so many years ago.

Horace served as Councilman for the Town of Neversink for over 30 years and was active in the Sullivan County Republican Party. He was a charter member of both the Grahamsville First Aid Squad and Grahamsville Fire Dept; life-long member and leader of the Grahamsville United Methodist Church; member and past officer of the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery Assn; life-long member and director of the Neversink Agricultural Society; member of the Tri-Valley FFA Alumni Assn; member of the Tri-Valley Lions and an active member of Gideon's International and the Neversink Roundout Antique Machinery Assn. in his later years.

God and family first, trucks second. Horace will be missed by both family and community. They just don't make many like him anymore.

Eugene Ackerley

Eugene Ackerley, a lifelong Sullivan County resident, passed away on Sunday December 22, 2013 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY. He was 64. The son of the Arnold C. and Margaret Ellen McGuire Ackerley, he was born on February 16, 1949 in the Town of Neversink.

Gene served on the Police Department for the Village of Woodridge for 35 years, working his way up to Police Chief. He was a US Army Veteran, serving from 1968 to 1971. He was a member of the Neversink Beagle Club and Liberty Elks Lodge # 1545 of Liberty. Gene was an avid golfer and spent many enjoyable hours playing golf with his friends.

"Gene's charismatic personality and smile was like no other. We will remember him for his sense of humor and his greatness."

He survived by his loving family; his mother , Margaret Ackerley of Liberty, NY; wife, Maria Sutherland Ackerley, at home; son, Eugene Ackerley Jr. of Grahamsville; daughters, Lindsay Garvey (Luke) of Pine Bush and Meghan Ackerley of Palm Coast, FL; brothers, Arnold Ackerley of Liberty, Richard Ackerley of Fayetteville, NC and Donald Ackerley and his companion Colleen of Fayetteville, NC; sisters, Marion Wegman of Liberty, Marjorie Fairbairn of Liberty, Virginia Kiefer of Jeffersonville, April Malara of Jeffersonville and Cindy Barber(Edward) of White Lake; two grandchildren, Logan and Lexi Garvey and numerous nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his brothers-in-law, Jon Sutherland (Justine)(Jon and Gene were also best friends) and Bill Sutherland (Mary), all of Parksville; sister-in-law, Peggy Morgans (Lynn) of Parksville and his special cousin, Billy Ackerley (Diane) of Woodbourne. He was predeceased by brothers, Wesley and Roy Ackerley and sister, Caroline Johnson and by his father Arnold C. Ackerley Sr.

Dick Smith of White Lake, N.Y., born July 5, 1920 in Brooklyn, N.Y., died December 21, 2013 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. He was the son of the late Cyril T. and Mary Ryan Smith. He was the widower of Mary Pearson Smith.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Madeline Mulvey Pritchard Smith at home; four sons, Richard Smith of Monticello, N.Y., William "Duke" Smith (Cheryl) of Jacksonville, FL., David Smith (Ellen) of White Lake, N.Y., and Donald Smith of Monticello, N.Y.; two daughters, Mary and Janet (Wayne); twenty grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Barbara Harris of Freeburg, IL., and Bernadette Charlton of Arlington, VA. and one step-son, John Pritchard, of Alexandria, VA. He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Enright and Patricia Oakes of Monticello, N.Y.

During the Depression, Mr. Smith joined the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) and later worked as a building contractor in Monticello for many years.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 3534 State Route 55, Kauneonga Lake, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Monticello, N.Y. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Forestburgh, NY following the mass.

She leaves behind her son Edwin "Sonny" McCrea and his wife Ginny of Clearwater, FL; two grandchildren, Brian McCrea and Tammy McCrea Russo of Florida, niece, Patti Huebner(Daniel); nephews, Gary Coddington (Linda), Ernest Wood (Annette) and Jeff Wood. Grace Rogers Lagarenne, a longtime resident of Monticello, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 10, 2013 at the home of her son in Tyler Hill, PA. She was 93. The daughter of John H. and Anna Crispell Rogers, she was born on July 25, 1920 in Harris, NY.

Grace graduated from Monticello High School in 1937 and Delhi College in 1941. She married Lawrence E. Lagarenne( 1921 - 2004) on December 19, 1943. Grace worked for the NY Telephone in Monticello, the 4-H Club in Liberty and Vincent J. Smith in Johnson City, NY. She was proud to a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

"Mom was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, and was an accomplished knitter. She was a wonderful mother, a sweet and gentle person and had an absolutely wicked sense of humor. She loved a great joke and brought smiles to everyone's faces."

Survivors include her children, Edward J. Lagarenne and his wife Linda and their children of Tyler Hill, PA and Cecile Lagarenne Higgins and her husband Jim Higgins of Richardson, TX; sister, Genevieve Stine and husband Raymond; brother, John Rogers and his wife Doris; sister-in-law Ethel Hagquist and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Alice Meola ( 1922 - 2012).

Harris W. Myers, a lifelong Sullivan County resident, passed away on Saturday December 7, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 73 years of age. The son of the late Stanley and Alberta Doughty Myers, he was born on July 26, 1940 in Callicoon, NY.

A self-employed contractor, Harris was an active community member. He belonged to the Grahamsville Reformed Church, where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of the NRA and he was a Master Hunter Safety Instructor and was President of Cher Acres Hunting Club, Kauneonga Lake, NY. He belonged to the Federation of Sportman's Clubs of Sullivan County, where was Habitat Chairman. He was a former 4-H leader. He was a graduate of Morrisville State College. Harris was also a musician and was the leader of the 5 Notes Band. He also played trumpet with Louis Armstrong and with Bob Herring (the Polka King).

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Timco Myers at home; sons, Stanley Myers of Virginia, Harris Myers Jr. and wife Doreen of South Carolina and Stephen Myers of South Carolina; stepsons, Steven Timco of NY, Orsino Iacovone and Joseph Iacovone, both of Ohio; daughters, Dawn Dauch and husband Gilbert of Florida and Rachel Myers of Virginia; stepdaughter, Concetta Iacovone of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Linda Myers.

He was also very active in many civic organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Davis Lee at home; sons, Walter P. Lee Jr. and his wife Ruth of Ardmore, OK and Arthur J. Lee of Log Lane Village, CO and two grandsons, Michael Lee and Ronald Lee. He was predeceased by a sister.

Friends may call at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 3534 Route 55, Kauneonga Lake, NY on Wednesday December 11, 2013 from 5-7 PM. Bethel Lion's Club will hold services at 6:30 PM and VFW services will be at 6:45 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at Ramsay's Funeral Home on Thursday December 12 at 11 AM. Rev. Susan Woodworth will officiate. Burial will follow at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Liberty, NY.

Faye D. Lichtenberger, a longtime resident of the area, died at her home on Friday December 6, 2013. She was 55. The daughter of the late Paul and Marlene Stanton Lichtenberger, she was born on March 1, 1958 in Milford, CT.

Faye was a member of Mongaup Valley United Methodist Church, the Smallwood-Mongaup Valley Ladies Auxiliary and the Mongaup Valley Union Cemetery Board.

She is survived by her fiancé, Wilbur Brown, at home; brother, Randy Lichtenberger and his wife Sandra of Lynchburg, VA and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Roger Lichtenberger.

Friends may visit on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 5-8 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 3534 Route 55, Kauneonga Lake, NY. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 11 at 11 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Kenneth Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow at Mongaup Valley Union Cemetery.
